Day Trips

Each year we arrange day trips to places of interest to our members. Many of these are in the care of the National Trust.

Over the next few months we have outings planned to:

Stanley Spencer Gallery, Cookham and Hughenden Manor - Thursday 24th September 2009

We start with a lecture and a tour of the stanley Spencer Gallery followed by a guided walking tour of Cookham village.

Sir Stanley Spencer lived in Cookham, was awarded the CBE, kinghted and elected to the Royal Academy, an eccentric sociable man with many friends. One of our greatest British artists.

Cookham, surrounded by National Trust commons and woodland, sits on one of the most besutiful stretches of the River Thames - just right for a picnic.

After lunch we drive on to Hughenden Manor to visit Benjamin Disraeli's home.

Ticket price £20

Meldreth Church Christmas Tree Festival - Saturday 28th November 2009

Our Christmas outing this year is to the Meldreth Church Christmas Tree Festival. This annual event will have about 30 trees donated and imaginatively decorated by local organisations. Themes range from very traditional to African! Study them in daylight and then visit them later by candlelight.

The church itself is well worth a visit, dating back to Norman times and containing a barrel organ (which may be playing during the afternoon). There will be an opportunity to buy high quality hand made Christmas gifts and decorations, cakes and produce.
