Short Break Holidays
Each year we arrange one or two short breaks to places of interest to our members. We try to arrange one abroad and one in the UK. Our next holiday is planned to:
Manchester - Friday 14th to Monday 17th May 2010
Our weekend starts with a visit to Standedge Tunnel near Huddersfield, the longest and deepest canal tunnel in England. We will have a short trip into the tunnel on a glass topped boat and a vist to the café. We will then make our way to our hotel, the Best Western - Smokies Park. Our Blue Badge Guide in Manchester will be Ann Marshall, whom many members will remember from our successful visit to Liverpool. We are proposing a morning's guided walk around the centre of Manchester to include the Town Hall, the City Art Gallery, the Cathedral, the Hidden Gem, the Manchester Museum, Albert Square and Rylands Library.
In the afternoon we are free to visit places such as the Museum of science and Industry, the Pump House Museum or general sight seeing, possibly the Corn Exchange or Bridgewater Hall.
The next day Ann will take us to Salford Quays, the Lowry Centre and the Imperial War Museum North.
On the way home, on Monday, we shall visit either Kedleston Hall or Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood
