Royston Allotments

RAGA is the Royston Allotments and Gardens Association and is an organisation set up to act in the interests of allotment holders in Royston. We also look after the interests of those plotholders who are not members and those on the waiting list for plots.

The Site:

Royston, Hertfordshire, has only one Allotment site, owned and managed by Royston Town Council. It is a Statutory Allotment site which means that it cannot be sold for development without the consent of the Secretary of State.

If you are interested in obtaining a plot on the site you should contact the Council on 01763 245484.
(Be aware that there is currently a long waiting list (about 3 years) so you should record your interest early and be prepared to be patient!)

Shop

Our Members' shop is open from 11am to 11.30am every Sunday during the season.

Royston in Bloom

In 2015 entries by plotholders once again achieved significant success in the Best Kept Allotment category. Unfortunately this competition was not held in 2016.

The Clematis covering our storage cabin was in full bloom last year

School Visits

We are pleased to welcome pre-arranged visits from local schools so that children can see gardening in practice as part of their curriculum.

Special Award from Anglia in Bloom

A few years ago we were honoured to have been nominated for a special 'Grow Your Own Award' by Anglia in Bloom. Unfortunately Royston in Bloom no longer enters this competition.

Brussels Sprouts

Bad news for farmers, good news for Children: Brussels sprouts crop faces Christmas ruin

(extract) The year's crop of Brussels sprouts could be ruined by a plague of immigrant moths invading the UK, growers have said.
Supplies of the vegetable are already running low after several farms' festive crops were ruined by the cabbage-loving diamondback moths which are resistant to pesticides.

Toilet

We are pleased that we now have a toilet on site for the use of plotholders and visitors. This was purchased with the benefit of a substantial grant from the Brian Racher Trust and provides for wheelchair access. It is a compostable toilet 'de-luxe'.

Water Saving

Water is essential to growing but there is a danger that we use too much!

In order to reduce our use of tap water on site we have fitted a rain harvesting system which we will be developing in the future.
